WATX integrates hydrological and climate datasets to generate the Water Scarcity Index (WSI). All sources are open, peer-reviewed, and independently verifiable.

Primary Data Sources

• NASA GRACE-FO: groundwater depletion (6 km³/yr)
• FAO AQUASTAT: agricultural withdrawals (70% of freshwater)
• UN Water: global water access and scarcity
• WRI Aqueduct: regional freshwater stress

WSI Calculation

The Water Scarcity Index is a normalized 0–100 score derived from:

• Groundwater depletion rate
• Surface freshwater stress
• Climate anomaly multipliers
• Seasonal rainfall variance

Each WSI update is hashed and published on the WATX Testnet Oracle.
